Jan Akervall, MD, PhD, did residency in Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery and a subsequent PhD in Cancer Biology at Lund University, Sweden. He did a two year fellowship in Head and Neck Oncologic surgery and micro-vascular reconstruction at University of Michigan. Dr Akervall has served as division chief for Head and Neck Oncology, Lund University Hospital, and currently as Director for the Multidisciplinary Head and Neck Clinic at Beaumont Hospital. He is the author of numerous peer-reviewed papers and book chapters and is Professor in Otolaryngology at Dept. of Surgery, OUWB School of Medicine. He currently serves as the President for Michigan Otolaryngological Society. Dr Akervall has a long experience in Biobanking and translational research and started the Beaumont Biobank together with George Wilson, PhD, in 2007. He initiated the idea of a The Great Lakes Biorepository Research Network, and is a member of the network’s founding committee.
